7 USEFUL TIPS TO TRAVEL TO PUERTO RICO
There are many useful tips, when traveling to Puerto Rico, that I can share with you. We tend to think, “Oh, I know my way around. I’m going home.” For us Puerto Rican’s it’s natural to fall into that way of thinking. It is true is a small island. Never-the-less Puerto Rico has changed considerably. The store in the corner, is not there anymore. There are new streets, highways, bridges, and the list go on.
Personally, I’m from the city of Arecibo, in the north coast of the island. It was an industrious commercial city, like an ant colony. People going in all directions constantly. Now is a silent town, with few stores open here and there.
Above is Avenida Jose de Diego (Downtown) in Arecibo. My Middle School used to be down this avenue and this street was completely packed with people and cars. Can you guess where is everybody? They built a huge mall in the outskirts of the city; with every store you can think of. Everybody prefers to shop there with air conditioning. Totally cool, and who can blame them. But please don’t get me wrong, there are exceptional places to visit in Arecibo. For example, the Arecibo Lighthouse is one of my favorites. I will talk about it in another post.
It is important to prepare and plan your vacation. Here are the seven useful tips I can give you from my own experience:
- Travel light – walking in the airports with heavy luggage and handbags is not fun. This is especially true when you don’t have a direct flight.
- Pack only the necessary clothes. Leave room for your purchases, souvenirs for family and friends. We Puerto Ricans accustom this.
- I recommend mailing the gifts you are taking there, at least two weeks before leaving on vacation. Send the package to a family or friend of your confidence. This tip will save you time and money when checking in at the airport. Extra weight means extra money, to pay for it.
- Rent a car when you buy the tickets and make reservations. They will pick you up at the airport and take you straight to the rental location.
- Inspect the car and take pictures of the condition to avoid any claims later at the returning time, for damages you are not responsible for.
- In the summer wear very cool and comfortable clothes, bring flip-flops and sunscreen. Puerto Rico is very humid and warm. You will confirm it as soon as you get out of the airport doors.
- Last but not least on my 7 useful tips, bring mosquitoes spray to draw away those tiny evil creatures. Of course, you can purchase it there, but I mean for meanwhile when you arrived.
I’m sure these tips will ensure a quality relaxing trip for you and your family. Visit my Pinterest Board, Puerto Rico Gem of the Caribbean. You will discover an infinite pin of places to visit and have fun.
